18. Work with a mentor.
As writers, we all have that one writer who we look up to for their achievements. It wasn’t until I got into the literary game that I realized how down to earth many of them are...they’re just like you and me. If you are lucky enough to soak up game from an established author, take advantage! Many misconceptions come along with being new to this industry, so it’s best to get as much information from someone who’s been through exactly what you’re going through now. Mentorships can come in many varieties. Whether you are collaborating with another author, shadowing them, or just receiving simple advice, pay attention! Remember, many seasoned authors hope to help young writers NOT make the same mistakes they made to get to the top!
